Building Better Solutions

Every day, Southern Company delivers the vital energy needed to connect communities, businesses and future generations to opportunity. We do this by asking better questions - because we know asking better questions leads to better solutions.

We're on a mission to deliver clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy solutions that allow the customers and communities we serve to thrive. Through an industry-leading commitment to resilience, R&D, and net zero emissions by 2050, we're always preparing for what's next.

We're building a bright future, today.

Delivering today, preparing for tomorrow

We have a vision of a clean and reliable energy future and every day, we put it in motion.

Georgia Power's Plant Vogtle is the largest generator of clean energy in the U.S., delivering carbon-free nuclear energy to more than 1 million homes and businesses. This long-term investment will benefit customers and communities for the next 60-80 years and help ensure we meet the energy needs of our growing economy.

The site consists of four units. Vogtle Unit 3 entered commercial operation on July 31, 2023. Unit 4 entered commercial operation on April 29, 2024. Units 3 and 4 will support 800 permanent, high-paying positions.

Units 3 and 4 are the first newly constructed nuclear built in the United States in more than three decades. These units are the first U.S. deployment of the Westinghouse AP1000 Generation III+ reactor technology.

Net Zero

Building a clean, bright energy future

We know that building a successful and sustainable energy future means embracing the transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions. Our growing portfolio of zero carbon resources plays an integral role in helping us meet our net zero by 2050 goal.

We are transforming our business operations as we build a diverse energy portfolio, develop innovative programs and services for our customers, and research new clean energy technologies. Having a diversified energy portfolio is crucial to how we are reducing emissions while maintaining reliability and affordability for those we serve.

In 2022, 30% of our generating capacity was from clean energy sources and we're the 5th largest owner of renewables in the U.S.
