Community Impact

A citizen wherever we serve

Through our PGA TOUR partnership, we help to positively impact our communities all year, not just during TOUR Championship. Since it was first staged at East Lake Golf Club in 1998, the tournament has generated nearly $55 million for community charities. Southern Company and the PGA TOUR are ensuring good energy makes a lasting impact in our communities.

East Lake Foundation

Established in 1995, the East Lake Foundation has led the revitalization of the East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta and become a model for similar efforts around the country. The Foundation and its partners sponsor many programs, including mixed-income housing, cradle-to-college education and community wellness, that are designed to help every family thrive.

First Tee - Metro Atlanta

The First Tee - Metro Atlanta is a nonprofit organization that empowers youth through golf — by weaving life skills into the game. Participants gain inner strength, self-confidence and resilience on the course and apply those skills to life. Southern Company sees the value of these experiences. As First Tee’s Educational Patron and a supporter of First Tee’s National School Program, Southern Company has supported the nonprofit for years, impacting more than 700,000 students annually in 1,400 schools.

Focused Community Strategies

Focused Community Strategies (FCS) is a place-based community development organization that works with neighbors and local leaders to strengthen under-resourced communities by developing mixed-income housing, promoting sustainable economic development and empowering neighborhood engagement. The organization works to advance racial equity, economic mobility and improved health for residents and families. FCS provides the tools and resources that help residents overcome obstacles and improve their overall quality of life.

Grove Park Foundation

The Grove Park Foundation is dedicated to revitalizing the Grove Park neighborhood and improving the quality of life by working with local partners, leaders, and residents to create a healthy, equitable, and vibrant community. The foundation strives to provide equitable access to health, education, housing and opportunities to build a self-sustaining and economically inclusive neighborhood.

Purpose Built Schools Atlanta

Serving as the blueprint for Purpose Built Communities, the redevelopment of the East Lake community is a landmark achievement in urban renewal. The Foundation worked with neighborhood residents and expert public and private partners to develop a new community on the site of former public housing projects. Since that time, violent crime has dropped in the neighborhood by 97%, and residents are engaged in health and wellness programs, with many becoming homeowners.
