GEORGIA EMBRACES ROOFTOP SOLAR FINANCING

The passage of House Bill 57 – also called the “solar financing bill” – gives Georgia’s homeowners and small business owners another option for rooftop solar. The bill, which was sponsored by Republican State Representative Mike Dudgeon, makes installing rooftop solar panels easier by permitting outside financing for small, rooftop solar installations. Financing would allow consumers to avoid the upfront costs associated with installation and equipment as well as pay for the use of their system over time. If approved, HB57 will go into effect on July 1, 2015.

"Georgia Power was pleased to be a participant in the collaborative development of this important legislation. It meets the objectives of allowing a lease based on the performance of an installation, limiting the obligations of the leasing agent, while upholding the Georgia utility territorial integrity," said Norrie McKenzie, Georgia Power’s vice president of Renewable Development.

While Georgia Power currently doesn’t offer financing for customer solar installations, we fully support cost-effective solar generation in Georgia.
